FAQs
Our most frequently asked questions about concrete coatings.
What surfaces can Carvestone cover?
Concrete, Pea Gravel, Cool Deck, Brick, Tile (if in good condition), and Pool Coping.
What can you do about cracks?
If you decide on a random pattern such as flagstone, we incorporate the cracks into the pattern so that even if a crack ever opened up we would only need a simple 15-minute grout repair. With a square pattern, we grind down below the cracks and carefully epoxy them.
Is Carvestone slippery when wet?
No. Unlike stamped concrete or real stone, we trowel Carvestone on by hand. As it’s setting, we use sponges to give it even more texture. The finished surface won’t hurt your feet. Even when Carvestone gets wet, it’s never slick.
Can it withstand the wear and tear of cars on a driveway?
Carvestone has a 6000 PSI rating, which is over twice as strong as concrete. You will never have issues with the material cracking unless you’ve got a significant substrate issue. Driveways still look beautiful after 13 years.
How thick is the coating?
The main layer of Carvestone is troweled on at a little under half an inch. The initial bond-coat is very thin, which simply facilitates a strong chemical bond to the surface.
What do you do with expansion joints?
We weatherproof the joints by filling them with a self-leveling mastic. As it’s setting, we pour sand on it so the sand sets into the mastic and gives it a very natural finish.
Are there any surfaces Carvestone can’t cover?
Wood, Pavers, Tile (when cracked badly), and Concrete that is in bad shape. However, we can repair or pour concrete to prepare your surface for Carvestone.
